SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH IN FIJI
Some Initiatives for Revival and Reformation
(REACH UP IN 2011)
Preamble
In the recent October Annual Council of the Executive Committee of the General Conference several initiatives were discussed. Included in these were initiatives for Revival and Reformation for the world Church. Following these, our Mission Executive Committee, on Sunday November 14, 2010, made a decision to adopt and adapt some of these initiatives, as part of the Reach Up element of our 2011 Strategic Plan. These are now presented to the wider membership of the church in Fiji for consideration and adoption in your own local church programs:
“777” Fiji-wide Holy Spirit Prayer Fellowship. Seventh-day Adventists praying seven days a week at 7 (a.m. and p.m.) for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit’s power and presence. Praying any hour on the hour, a person will join with thousands of others in other time zones around the world, bringing unity. " A chain of earnest praying believers should encirle the world.. to pray for the Holy Spirit" (Review & Herald, January 3, 1907)
- New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day – Nationwide Day of Prayer. All churches in Fiji are encouraged to plan their programs on that Sabbath to be geared towards Reaching Up. This will allow every church member around Fiji and the world to participate in seeking God for a revival experience in 2011.
- Day for Prayer and Fasting. It is suggested that at least one day or one Sabbath per Quarter to be designated as day of prayer and fasting by/for our churches. Encourage families and individuals to establish a day (or a Sabbath) as normal or partial fast days.
- Study of Bible and EGW - plans are being developed to increase study of the Bible and Ellen G. White writings. This includes having Bible reading outlines at the back of the adult Fijian Sabbath School lessons, preparation of materials that will assist Bible study and the study of Ellen White’s writings, organizing and/or supporting Bible and prayer conferences organized at District and local church level, and other initiatives.
- Great Controversy - plans are being developed by the Mission office to reprint the Fijian translation of the Great Controversy, as well as to obtain more copies of the English version. All church members are encouraged to read and study The Great Controversy for revival in 2011, in preparation for major distribution of the book, along with Steps to Christ, around Fiji in 2012.
- Revival and Beyond book are to be obtained by the Mission office, translated and distributed to our members.
- Mark Finley’s book, Lord, Revive Us Again, to be obtained by the Mission office, translated and distributed to our members.
